We will never have the same unregulated, whimsical, feral, and savage Internet of the past. That which was akin to the Wild West. It's all being turned into a gated community with every home having 100s of ways to sneak in and harvest your information — PERFECTLY LEGALLY mind you. And if you refuse, you're some sort of political miscreant at best or a hostile to the state and actively sodomized on the legal and financial basis

The gawking rabble found a home on the internet, a few select apps that prioritizes convenience over substance and are easily manipulated. When the next iteration of human communication is discovered, say plugging our brains in directly to each other, we will go through exactly the same stages. It will start out with all the interesting people sharing cool ideas with each other, then the gawking rabble will want in on the action and a convenient pipeline that allows them to gossip without being exposed to strange ideas will be created. Don't get upset about it, let them be.

How do you suppose discoverability will work for this next iteration, besides using the internet, where the gawking rabble will just rush in at the same rate?
